The clinic will follow a similar format to last year's, with both large and small group sessions. A vote will be held on the three proposed changes to CBOA Bylaws/ Policies and procedures found below.

Nov 4, 2009: IMPORTANT Notices of Motion

The CBOA Executive is recommending two changes to the CBOA Bylaws, and one to the CBOA Policies. As per Article 14 of the CBOA Bylaws, any proposed changes must be provided to the Membership at least two weeks in advance of voting on changes. As per Article 15 of the CBOA Bylaws, any changes made to CBOA Policies, must be ratified at the next General Meeting. At the November 21st High School Clinic a vote will be held on the following proposed three changes to the Bylaws.
The following changes to Policy have been recommended by the Executive.
CHANGE ONE
General Member Expectations - Currently there are 14 expectations for Members of the CBOA to be considered an Approved Member of the CBOA. The Executive has recommended that the minimum number of games be raised from 40 to 60 games in order for officials to receive a provincial or national appointment.
CHANGE TWO
6.6 Tenure: the elected officers shall assume office at the conclusion of the voting and close of the meeting. The term of office ends at the conclusion of the voting and close of the Annual General Meeting two years hence. A member may not hold more than one elected executive position at any one time.
The Executive recommends the following be added to Article 6.6, “An individual may only serve in one office for a maximum of three consecutive terms (6 years). An individual can be on the Executive for more than three consecutive terms, but not in the same position for more than three terms”
CHANGE THREE
7.10.1 Commissioner: he shall coordinate all game assignments with leagues and officials. He shall keep accurate records of all assignments. An assistant commissioner may be appointed by the Executive.
The Executive recommends the following be added to Article 7.10.1, “The Commissioner(s) will be hired for a one year term, with the option to renew that one year term for a maximum of six consecutive years. It would be possible for a Commissioner to be re-hired after being out of the position for a minimum of one year.

Sept 26, 2009: Volunteers for Mt. Royal Recruitment Fair

MT ROYAL UNIVERSITY RECRUITMENT FAIR

Wed. Oct. 7, 2009
Time: 9:30 am – 2:30 pm

We really need some volunteers to help ‘man the CBOA booth’ for this fair. It seemed to work well having two shifts: 9:00 am – 11:30 am and 11:30 am – 2:30 pm.

Set-up: 9:00 am (and partake in some MRU supplied breakfast snacks!)

We ask that you wear your referee shirt. At the table we will have rookie clinic brochures to pass out and information about the high school clinic.

Please email
Rod Davidson (either vp@cboa.ca or rodcdavidson@shaw.ca) as soon as possible, indicating which shift you can cover.

Much appreciated

Sept 24, 2009: New National Appointment Application Porcedures

Hi Everyone

As you may know the ABOA has developed a new policy as it relates to choosing
candidates for National Assignments. This new policy is outlined on the ABOA website at this direct link. The basic thrust of this new policy is to identify those individuals who are interested in officiating at a national level tournament as early as possible. This would allow both the local board and ABOA to conduct several assessments of each candidate throughout the year to prepare them should they be selected. The deadline for application is October 1, 2009 for National appointments occurring during the next 12 months. You will be required to submit your online applications directly to the ABOA Evaluation Chair Jake Steinbrenner followed by sending a hard copy of your application and a $25 application fee to ABOA Treasurer, Paul Rocca –. While I appreciate this rather short notice I would encourage every to look at the policy on the ABOA website and decide whether or not you are interested in being considered. In order to assist our members, the CBOA will front the upfront cost of the application and deduct it from your November pay. All those interested should also forward a copy of their application to Ian Pollard at evaluation@cboa.ca. This will allow us to track those of you who are interested. Should any of you have any questions please contact either Ian Pollard at 403 689-7971 or myself at 403 616-6393

Respectfully

Don Herman
President, CBOA
